Physical Retail Vs. E-commerce - Comparative trends in Gift Cards
Physical (brick-and-mortar) retailers have been among the earliest adopters of Gift Cards. E-commerce players (online retailers) have entered the Gift Card scene rather recently, but have shown a rapid rate of adoption and growth. A look at how Gift Card usage and adoption compares across both these worlds throws up some interesting insights:

- In terms of overall sales, e-commerce players seem to be fast catching up with physical retailers, with the gap narrowing very fast.
- E-commerce players seem to have woken up to the immense possibilities of e-Gift Cards with almost 92% contribution coming from them. Physical retailers on the other hand are yet to embrace e-Gift Cards, with less than 1% contribution coming from e-Gift Cards.
- Large Format Retailers’ adoption of E-Gift Cards seems to be mirroring E-commerce majors’ adoption of Physical Gift Cards.
